A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Dr. Joseph completed both his undergraduate and graduate education at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1968. Dr. Joseph then completed a rotating internship at Madigan Army Medical Center (Tacoma, WA) and a residency in psychiatry at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (Washington, D.C.) in 1973. He served six years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.

Dr. Joseph returned to Jacksonville in 1974 where he began a distinguished medical career. Since then, Dr. Joseph has gained extensive experience as a psychiatrist working in outpatient practice, psychiatric and general hospitals, mental health centers, and conducting clinical trials.

Since 1984, Dr. Joseph has been called upon to give psychiatric expert witness testimony and has performed numerous Independent Psychiatric Evaluations for the legal, government and private communities for both plaintiff and defense.

Dr. Joseph is board certified (Diplomate) by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as well as a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. He is licensed to practice medicine in Florida.

Throughout his medical career, Dr. Joseph has provided pharmacotherapy and and psychotherapy to patients with a variety of psychiatric disorders. He treats individuals, couples, and families. Populations served range from childhood to geriatrics.

He currently limits his practice to outpatient psychiatry, forensic services and research. He has had several years of psychiatric inpatient experience including Chairman of Psychiatry at Baptist Medical Center, Jacksonville, FL, Medical Director of St. Johns River Hospital, and consulting psychiatrist for Jacksonville Mental Health Resource Center. He is a consultant to the Florida Department of Health and the Physician's Recovery Network. He is the consulting psychiatrist to the Counseling Center at the University of North Florida, and the Health Center at Vicar's Landing, Ponte Vedra, FL.

Dr. Joseph is a principal investigator and has conducted clinical trials involving new pharmacologic agents in a variety of disorders including: Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Sleep Disorders, Schizophrenia, Migraine Headache Disorder, Insomnia, Social Phobia and Fibromyalgia.
